How low can you drop a 2001 dakota sport with out changing the shocks? I want to get some Monroe Reflex shocks soon and in the future drop it but don't what to have to buy new shocks, I only want a small drop what is best? 1/2 or 2/3 drop.

3/4 is the best drop. It makes it look mean but still comfortable to drive. I dropped mine a 4/5 and i still have regular shocks and they ride just as good. Ya a little stiffer but still smooth. Hope i helped.

I found a nice 2/3 drop from Hotchkis that's what I'm gonna go for. I don't want a radical truck just somthing that poeple will notice. Plus this kit also has a sway bar wich i have been thinking about getting since i don't like the handling during corners.
thanx

none of you answered his q??? you cannot drop without changing shocks. they are designed to work with in a specific mount point to mount point range and a specific amout of travel within that range. if you change the ride hiegth via a drop kit in the rear they will have to be changed in the rear, but some front kits mearly change the position of the spindle on the stearing knuckle - which won't require a change, but other designes might. the best thin to do in your case is to hold off putting on new ones if you arefor sure doing a drop, put that money towards a full kit that has everything you need, then use whatever comes with the kit, or if non do, buy them then.

Too late I just put on the new shocks today and I have to say I'm super happy with them over the stock shocks. Much beter ride. I guess I'll have to figure something else out then for a drop or not.

I droped my truck 2/3 using springs and blocks. I kept the stock shocks at first but they didn't last long at all. Infact, the begin to bottom out on dips in the road on and off bridges. The sound is horrible and feels violent to your back. By lowering shocks. Put them in when you lower the truck and save the additional cost of having someone going back in. The ride is excellent. I got my shocks from stylinconcepts.com
You can see my truck at this site: http://www.dodgedakota.net/userpics/Philip/Lowered.jpg

Sweet ride blk98dakota, thats a good drop. I think if i do end up going for the drop I'll stick with the shocks I've got now there a good quality shock, plus I do all my own repairs, with access to a shop and hoist.
I love his site except there is so much conflicting info going around its kinda confusing.

Check out my pics at www.cardomain.com/id/blk98dakota and let me know what you think. Its from start to finish. Well almost finish. I have to tint the windows add my flush mounted (CHeckerpro) bed cover, hidden hitch behind my flip-up license plate and then paint all the new stuff I added. Then finally finish my stereo. THEN, i'll be done.

Hey Blk98dakota when you put on your roll pan did you have to lose the Hitch I have a hitch On my Dak too and Like the look of the roll pan, I'm not ready to lose the hitch since i have a fiberglass toneau cover which limits my cargo.
Is there away to modify the hitch or move it back on the frame? or will i have to lose it or get a special hidden hitch?

Sad to say I sold my hitch on ebay because it would stick out past my roll pan. However, I'm getting a hidden hitch that will go behind my roll pan. I have the flip down tag holder to access the hitch. If you want go to this link and its only $99 http://www.etrailer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=E&Product_Code=87554&Category_Code=H

Its long but will take you right there. If for some reason it doesn't load the site is etrailer.com
