Subject: Towing and Lowered?? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 99 r/t that is dropped 2/2 and I have 2 jet ski's that I am going to need to tow in just a couple of months. I've heard that towing with aluminum blocks is dangerous, so I was thinking about getting the hotchkins rear springs and maybe a 1" steel block too. and then doing another inch in front too. I also need new shocks, has anyone used the Tokico trekmaster R/T's? What shocks would you recommend.....thanks for the help

Message: Haven't used those shocks, sorry. But I am lowered 2"/2" and tow with it, no problems. Watch the tongue weight, though, as clearance between the axle tube an frame snubbers will get awful close with more than 200lbs. on the tongue. Are you towing from the bumper or ..?

Message: I'm towing from a hidden hitch, and I think I'm going to end up doing a c-notch before then...so the axle and frame issue shouldn't be a problem.
Do you know about the aluminum block? Are they dangerous to tow with? thanks........

Message: The tongue weight on those 2 jet skis can't be that much at all. I wouldn't worry about it. I tow a 2500lb boat with my 02 R/T with no problems at all. I'm putting my Hotchkis drop on soon and I bought airbags for then. Whenever I tow I will just use my compressor to fill the bags until the truck is level again. If your worried about it you could go that route. Hope this helps...

Message: Re: Allum.blks. I've got them, tow my drag bike, tools, fuel, etc. with it; no trouble. Just check the u-bolts once in awhile. They do seem to corode a bit, so you might consider painting them before install (the u-bolts, too).
