Subject: Is hotchis that much better? IP: Logged
Message: I have an 02 4.7L dakota RC and I am looking to drop! I dont want to drop it too much, but enough to lesson the wheel gap and deliver a nice neat clean look. I dont know much about this stuff but I've tried to readup and learn. I am guessing a 2/3 kit would what I am looking for? Belltech has a 2/4 but I am afraid that would make the rear look lower. Is there another good kit? Everyone reccommends Hotchkis but it cost a ton! Its like $830 I think! Is it that much better? Where is the best place to get it (pricewise)? Will it ride ok if I dont get the sway bars? Or should I just bite the bullit and get it all? I guess I could add swaybars later right? Is it difficult to install? Sorry, I dont know much about this stuff but am trying to learn? Any advice, reccmmendations?

Message: I have a 2001 Motor Sports edition Dakota clubcab w/4.7. Last year I installed the complete Hotchkis 2/3 kit. The kit was front coils, rear leafs, massive front and rear swaybars and custom ported Bilstein shocks. I have to tell you it was pricy ($2K installed) but well worth it. The truck corners like it is on rails. I would put it up against a couple of my previous cars (Mustang GT, Trans Am and an older Vette). It has completely eliminated all sway and created a ton of traction for those tight mountain roads. The only downside is the rough ride, especially city driving. Highway is not so bad. A few other upgrades that really helped with performace was a K&N Intake and dual exhaust with a 3 chamber Flowmaster. I am still waiting for Hyper Tech to release a programmer for the 4.7 computer. Good Luck! JM

Message: I just lowered my 01 CC to R/T height for $750.00 including: New Tokico Trekmaster R/T shocks all around, used (ebay 224.00 plus 120.00 shipping) R/T front coils, rear springs, both swaybars, installation at my local muffler shop one day when they were slow, and alignment
Although the look is only subtly different, the ride is awesome, very flat cornering, yet supple on crappy northern Illinois roads.
Maybe I am getting too old, but very radical lowering always forces compromises in ride, handling, or comfort, not to mention warranty problems if your truck needs work (upper ball joints on gen III are notoriously short lived).
01 silver CC sport plus, 4.7 manual, 3.55 SG,
Borla catback, shaved decals, Black max tonneau,
Hurst shifter, Recaro seats.

Message: Matt, it's about 10 days now turn around ordered/shipped to you...
Full TVS kit (sways front/rear, front coils, rear leafs and all bumpstops/hardware) $820 shipped. The shocks run $339.80 shipped.
The best handling suspension for the Dakota-- period. I've won a few Auto-X events with my truck-- and the suspension was the key. If you get into it, you'll need more aggressive seats!! The truck handles THAT good!

Message: You can do a 2/2 drop cheaply which looks like this:
I used the Hotchkis drop coils (don't remember the price but not much), for the rear I used a pair of $30 2" blocks. The tools you'll need? A good floor jack, jack stands, a pickle fork, some wrenches and about two hours of your time. Be extremely careful when decompressing the front coils and the rear leafs, you'll injure yourself or damage your truck easily if you don't know what you are doing.
