 Subject: cutting a rivet in hangers

could i cut a rivet in my hangers and use a flat head to get them out or do i have to use a grinder on my compressor and grind them out ? any shortcuts or easier ways besides pneumatic tools to do hangers on our daks? btw i gotta 98 dakota v6

I've had to take those rivets out a couple of times.If you don't have a set of torches or air tools (air hammer/cisel)you'll be there all day. No matter what there gone to take a long time to cut out.

Yea, an air chisel is and a drill are the best bet. I drilled through the head, then chiseled them off.
Anyway you look at it, its not fun at all.

just get a open shoe grinder... takes about five minutes a rivet. Grind all the heads off, then hit pound on the hanger with a 5 lb sledge until it falls off.

Air tools better make much more noise.Torchs good to set truck on fire an rost marshmellows.HEHE
You might also have to bore out the rivets holes a little ,had to on the last set of hangers that i did,an don't forget to put the shimms in they do make a differance in driveability, you don't want to mess up you're pinion gear.

quicksilver, what shims are you tal;king about? i ordered some hangers from djm and all i got was the hangers. i didn't get any bolts shims or anything. btw, if anyone wants some hangers they are for sale. i only had them for 3 days and decided not to put them on cause it was a longer job than i thought. make me an offer.

You should have A set of shimms to keep your pinion angle the same.And they should have sent all the mounting hardware for your kit.What type kit did you get.
