Subject: Cut Coils? IP: Logged
Message: Put 2' lowering spindles for the front of my 96 dak sport extended cab. Was wondering if i cut my coils to lower it an extra inch or 2 would hurt. Cause the back will be lowered 5 inches. Looking for some advise on people who have done it, or have some legit advise. Thanks! Email me if you can. Valoriks@yahoo.com

Message: in general if you cut one coil you will be one inch lower. ive lowered probably 10 cars this way and havent had a problem. just make sure you dont heat them to drop it or youll be bouncin across lanes.

Message: i would start with less than a coil at a time. cut about half of one at a time and check how you like it... remember, you cant add coils when you cut too many.
I had cut my front springs to lower my truck but i had FabTech 2" lift springs and cutting 2.5 coils lowered me 4" from stock... so 2.5 really lower the truck 6".

Message: definitely; better to not cut enough than to cut too much, so i'd start with about 1/2 coil, you'll probably be surprised how much it drops. (and probably more after a bit of driving on it.)
my truck has 3" drop springs, and i cut a little less than 1 coil off; been driving it like that for yeara, no problems! but i wouldn't cut off any more than that...peace

Message: i'll just write it up here so more people can see. It's easy to find half of a coil... look at the top of the coil where it ends... directly across from that would be half. The next coil directly below would be one whole coil. I just put it in a bench vice and got a die grinder with a 3" cutting attachment and had at it. I think that the die grinder is one of the fastest ways to do it without allowing too much heat. You could also use a torch but might heat it up some or if you have a sawzal, that would work. If you only got a hand saw, it would work... but it might take you a couple hours to do both and dont expect to be able to wack it for a couple days ;-)

Message: DONT DO IT! not a whole coils, you will get a severe drop, start smaller like intense said. id even star with 1/4 coil and see if thats what you want.

Message: i just cut one coil off my springs and lowered my front almost exactly 3 inches. if i were you i wouldn't cut more than half or 3/4 of a coil at first.
