i was gonna do it in hope of it helping straightline traction, but was afraid of the results in the corners.

Message: Yea, thanks from me too.
When i decide whether i'm going with 4" shackle/hangers and pulling a leaf OR 5" shackle/hangers, i'll go from there.

Message: no big thing to take out leafs (sp?)just make sure of all the standard safety stuff...jackstands, etc... first remove the u-bolts holding the axle to the spring pack--just do one side at a time--then raise that side of the axle off the pack with a jack. use 2 c-clamps (one on either side of the center spring bolt) and remove the center bolt. i used a pair of vice grips on the round upper head of the bolt.) remove the band clamps at either end of the spring pack carefully( youll need to put these back on again) and carefully loosen the c-clamps. the pack should litterally come apart in your hands. remove the "offending" leafs (sp) and re-assemble the packs in the opposite order as you took them apart. re-align the axle, tighten everything up and youre all set. i actually took the entire pack apart and removed everything but the main and the overload spring. that along with a 4 inch block is a metric assload of drop. i also took out the rear snubbers to go lower. im actually sitting on the (un-notched as of right now) rear frame rails when im aired out. im using a temporary air shock set-up in the rear to raise it for driving, but im sure once i get around to notching it, it will actually go much lower. the major drawback to taking out leafs(sp), is that the axle tube will try to wrap the springs around it and you will develop a horrid case of wheel hop...really bad if its a standard...almost to the point of undriveable if you arent easy with the clutch. hope that helps you a bit!

i thought leaf springs were for carrying loads in the back, or towing something. So, how would removing a leaf spring effect your traction in the corners?

Message: removing a leaf WILL affect traction in all asprcts of the truck. it will affect straightline by not giving enough support to the axle housing and letting it literally wrap the springs around itself, causing a terrible case of wheel hop. it affects cornering by the same means...not enough support. in the corners, it allows the rear of the body to roll to the outside too far, literally picking the inside rear wheel up off the ground. the more leafs(sp) you remove, the more pronounced the issues becomes.

Message: I knew it would do something to the payload capacity(not that I ever use even a 10th of it) I also thought that it would effect axel wrap as well.

Message: well, what i was thinking, since the leafs are so stiff, it might transfer weight to the rear better (but then again axel wrap might be an issue). might have helped in straight line, but i was afraid the results might transfer weight side to side alot more, resulting in more body roll while going through the corners.
