Subject: Help with those rear rivits IP: Logged
Message: I've been working on installing the 5" shackle/hangar kit that I just got. So far, I've been working for a few hours and all I've gotten off is the head of a few rivits. How do you get those rivits out once the head is already off? I sat and whacked it with a hammer for 30 min and they haven't even moved. Does anyone have a better way to do this? Could I just drill them all the way through? Any help is greatly appreciated, I'm in a hurry too, since this is my daily driver.

Message: I would drill all the way through them of you can...makes the removal worlds easier. When I did mine back in the day I had an air chisel and they came out easy with that.

Message: Thanks, I thought that I might have to drill them out further. Now I'm about half way through and they arn't going anywhere.

Message: i just ground off the heads with a open shoe grinder and then took a five pound sledge to actual stock hanger and about five or six hits, it was off the truck and on the floor.

Message: OK, now the head is off and I have a 3/8" hole all the way through the rivit, and it still isn't going anywhere. Has anyone just used a 7/16" bit to just make a hole that will fit the bolt. If I do it this way, I'm only concerned about how much play I have with the DJM kit, since my hole isn't directly centered - it's off abot 1/16".

Message: Hey, IntenseDak39
I've been meaning to ask you - what drop do you have and with size wheels are those? You have a great looking truck.

Message: thanx!
my lowering job is all custom stuff that i did. The wheels in the avatar are just crappy stock ones painted black. if you click on it, it will take you to the bigger pic where i have 15x7 american racing outlaw II's... i am thinking of ditching them for the same style but in a 17x8
oh... the lowering job is about 4/7" lower than a stock dakota sport regular cab.
