Im about to install new hotchkis coils and bilstein shocks on my RT RC. I wanted to know how hard it is to get the coil springs off and install the new ones. After taking the tire off how do you get the lower arm down to remove the coil? Ive obviously never done it before and just need some tips on it. Any advice/help would be cool.

First, take out the shocks and remove the end links for the sway bar and break the tie rods loose.

Second, Loosen one of the castle nuts on either the upper or lower balljoint. BUT do not take it off completely. Get out a 10 pound sledge hammer or pickle for and pop the balljoint.

Support the lower control arm with a jack. Then remove the castle nut. If you removed the lower ball joint, be sure to make sure the spindle is lifted off the ball joint. You may also want to remove the 2 bolts holding the brake line bracket on the upper a arm.

Slowly lower the jack. The spring should be loose and you should be able to pry it out. Install new spring and jack up lower control arm to get ball joint back in spindle. Then put it back together.

Good luck. . . I take no responsibility for your actions, this is just a guide.

actually, you don't have to undo the end links or break the tie rods. own mine i just juat dropped the upper nut of the control arm, remove the shock, and dropped the whole sway bar. it was the easiest way to get the coil out. it came right out with no prying. make sure you support the control arm with something though. don't forget about the brake lines also. that would be the one thing you would really want out of your way.also, make you have the right tools to split the ball joint apart.
