 Subject: broken ball joint boots

Hey can anyone assist me in why the heck did my boots on the ball joints crack. The boot is totally shredded. I have 2" drop springs in the front suspension, is that the case. If I replace them will it crack again. Please Advise me anyone out there. I have a Blu Dak 01' 4Banger 2/4" drop. Alohaz
Oh also I happened to look at the maintenance for 30000 mi. from the manual. Its says Adjust Belt Tension. How do i do that. Are there any Chilton/Haynes manuals out yet or ?????

As for the boots which ones are cracked? Uppers or lowers?? Who installed your springs? Replace these now or your ride will be horrible trust me I have a 3 4 drop on my R/T and they cracked the upper boots when they installed the control arms and the ride just got worse and worse! There was so much play and rust in em it wasn't funny! Now it is so much better.

The upper boots are cracked. and i went to checkers and napa and they don't have it in stock. It hasn't even been released yet. So i will have to go through a dealer. But i live in hawaii and the dealers out here jack up prices 3 times more than the MSRP price. As for who installed them My Friend did, I think it might of cracked when he tried to take out the ball joints. Could it be from the springs?

I'm pretty sure it's most likely it happened when he loosened the balljoints; i'm pretty sure that's how mine got messed up. peace

If you used a picklefork to seperate the ball joints, then i'd say, yea, that's why they're cracked. Mine are ok because we beat them apart without using the picklefork.

Hey you can use the moogs for the 99 model. I used them on my R/T and they work great. Just have to get 3/8 inch bolts and drill the holes in the moog to 3/8 and it'll work just fine! You can go to rockauto.com and look under 99 dakota not 01 !
