Subject: Any rubbing with 20's & 2/3 drop? IP: Logged
Message: I was just wondering if my tires would rub if I lowered my R/T with 2" coils and 3" leafs on 20's. I planned on getting a 275/40/20 tires....will those rub?
I was thinking about getting I 275/45/20 series tires because I see them everyewhere for really good prices but I don't want the tires to rub. I live kinda in the country so the roads are going to be bumpy. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
-Matt

Message: do a search first off...
try "hotchkis rubbing" or stuff like that...
i've covered this before.
i have a 2-3 drop and 295/40/20 all around.
you won't rub too much. during my commute and driving around town, i'll rub 1-2 per week. liveable.

Message: x96283,
Did you install bigger bump stops? I heard that can really stop the rubbing. And also, where exactly do the tires rub? On the fender flairs?
I had my R/T lowered at a time and my tires rubbed like crazy on the fender flairs and it left little gashes on the tires. You having that problem? Thanks for the reply,
-Matt

Message: Hey Matt, i have the same problem with my truck. I got the R/T wheels with the 255/55/R17 tires on a 3/4 drop, and it finally put a hole in my tire.

Message: i believe i can answer ur question. i have 275/45/20 tires on a 2/3 drop. the only time it rubs is on really bumpy parts of freeways. i would recommend a slightly smaller tire unless u can stand it rubbing every once in a while

Message: Well, should I just spend the extra $200 on the 275/35's instead of on the 275/45's? I just don't want to rub like I did before. I have $hitty luck! Thanks,
-Matt

Message: you should be fine with the 275/40-20
the 45 series would look huge on your r/t, probably not the look you're going for
i think that's the most popular size for the 20's ( 275/45-20 )

Message: I'M IN THE SAME BOAT AS ADAM. I HAVE 255/35/20 WITH A 3/5 DROP AND THE ONLY TIME I RUB IS IF I HIT A REALLY LARGE DIP AT HIGH SPEEDS. USUALLY THIS IS AT BRIDGES AND SUCH WHERE IT GOES FROM BLACKTOP TO CONCRETE. I ONLY PAID $830 SHIPPED TO MY DOOR FROM TIRERACK.COM.

Message: Well, I got off the phone today with an employee who works for Hotchkis. He told me that if I bought some 295/40/20 size tires that they would rub with a Hotchkis 2/3 drop. He told me that they would rub on every bump and turn. He said the biggest tires that I can get with a Hotchkis drop is 255/35/20 or 275/35/20. Hope this info. can be helpful to other people too.

Message: Does anyone have any pictures of their Dakota dropped any way like 2/3, 2/4, or 3/5 on 20's? I have seen x96283's and blackdak01's Dakotas and both of theirs look great! Good job guys. But hopefully some other people hit me up with pics. Thanks,
-Matt
