Subject: best way to lower 1" - 1.5" in front IP: Logged
Message: OK, I have a 2003 dakota cc 4.7 sport plus 2wd, and I want it dropped a little bit, but not so much that I start banging my bumpstops or rubbing the hell out of my tires. I'm thinking anything shy of 2 inches should be fine. From the search function I've found that my choices are pretty much the following:
1. Buy someone's old R/T coils and hope they lower my 4.7 a full inch -- I've heard this doesn't always work, since the 4.7 is a little lighter than the R/T
2. Buy 1" drop coils (Western Chassis, Springtech), and hope they drop the truck as promised -- I've heard mixed results from the crowd here, but so far this seems like my best option.
3. Cut my own stock coils 1" - 1.5" -- not too excited about doing that. Doesn't seem right, for some reason. Or would this be the way to go?
Any input would be appreciated. And I'm planning on dropping it in the rear with 2"-2.5"-3" adjustable hangers.
Thanks

Message: 1" or 2" coils...suspensionmax has some cheap ones but their 1" coils wouldnt get the job done...i would get 2" if you bought them from there...

Message: I was looking for the same thing. I wanted 1" on my 2003 QC 4.7 because my 2001 rubbed and bumped a lot with a belltech 2/3. Well, unfortunately I called springtech and they don't have a 1" for it, they only have 2 and 3 despite what the website says. I also went to the dodge dealer and asked about the R/T springs, they said there are no specific R/T springs, but only part numbers based on the VIN. Taking the part code of an R/T VIN will tell what sprins were used on that truck, but that doesn't mean they will work on a different model. For instance the R/T is a heavier 5.9 so some have complained putting R/T springs on has actually RAISED their truck and not lowered.
I have come to the conclusion I'm either:
1. Stuck with stock (nice ride [lots of freeways], looks like sh!t)
2. Another 2/3 (looks cool, rides like sh!t)
3.heat the coils (and loose life of the spring)
4. Cut the coils
I'm probably going to do another Belltech 2/3.

Message: Funny.......I'm also not happy with my Groundforce 2/2 drop. Over the winter, I will research hangers (blocks suck unless someone else tells me different). Also, I'm in the process of raising my front 1/2 inch, or 5/8 inch.......I'm making my own spring pad spacers and almost done. I'm using electrical floor rubber matting which I got thru work ($1800 for a 75 ft roll....very dense rubber) Let you know how it goes. Truck does look awesome but ride is lousy. Front still hits the bumpstops too ofter, sometimes hard! and rear too harch. 1/2 more on the front will make all the difference in giving me a bit more suspension. Can anyone help for the rear?? Who makes good adjustable hangers and part numbers if possible. thanks

Message: Cut 3/4 coil in the front (1" drop). Did it. Works great. Rides great. Cheap! Have 2" blocks in back. Send me an email(kurt.kern@lamrc.com) and I'll flip you some pics.
