Subject: BEST SHOCKS? IP: Logged
Message: i just lowered my 97 dakota 3/5 with stock shocks. i need stiffer shocks, especially in the back. what is the best brand and their prices? i read doestech is really good. also my rear bumpstops rest on my axle, i cut off half and it kinda helped. what are the prices for nice aftermarket bumpstops and do i need taller or shorter ones in the front? and the front doesnt seem to be all 3inches down, do these (springtech) take a lil while to settle down? thanks very much.

Message: Mike,
Go to www.sporttruckdirect.com, they have everything you need. The Doetsch shocks are great and sporttruck also carries short bumpstops(you'll need shorter ones for the front and back). The bumpstops are only a few bucks and the shocks are $39.95 each. As far as the Springtech coils go, I don't know there product. Good Luck

Message: The springs will probably settle alittle but not a noticable difference. Thats why, you never can tell with cheap springs what kind of drop you get. Some companies make them for one truck and don't take into consideration things like engine sizes, ext cabs. The same spring will cause different drops cause of weight differences. If your bumpstops are that close, the only way to improve your ride is to c-notch it. I have Doestch shocks and I have to say they suck. I mean they good ride quality but ain't no where near stiff. They will always compress like hell and let bumpstops and frame hit things their not. I have heard good things about Toxic's which is who I wished I bought from. If you do get the Doestch's lemme know how stiff yours turn out to be.

Message: thanks guys, so im kinda stuck between doestech and toxic, doestech are 40 a peice, anybody know how much toxics are? and alot of daks have the hanger/shackle kit in the back and dont need a c-notch so why is my drop so much lower? should i go to a 40 series tire? (i have 255/35/20 all around now) or maybe the hanger/shackle kit was put on wrong lol? thanks

Message: Different tires won't change the distance the frame sits from the axle. Lower tire will make your axle sit lower but your frame is going to come down also. So if you didn't do shackles and hangers it doesnt' matter/ 5 inches is 5 inches no matter how you got there, blocks, leafs, or shackles, but with your frame sitting 5 inches closer to the axle than stock I can't imagine how your ride is without a notch to keep you from bottoming out. Its pretty easy to tell, go outside and look out where your axle cuts across from wheel to wheel and look at how close the frame and the rubber stop attached to it are to it. If you can't fit but a couple of fingers between the bumpstop and the axle, you need a notch. I have seen some trucks lowered to the point where the bumpstops are completely remove and the frame sits on the axle. This is defined as having no suspension and you are not suspended from the axle and wheels no more but permamently bonded and will feel every bump in the road.

Message: Yeah I hate people that do that. IF you have used the product and its not to your liking than you can speak up, but if not then you really have no ground to talk. I have used the nitro slammers made by doestch of sporttruckdirect. They are suppose to be for the 4/6 drop and when I installed them they looked too long and you only see about 2 inches of the valve stick outta the shock till it bottoms out. I called them to make sure I had the right product and they assured me I did. I put them and right away I noticed they are easily pushed down like when you put your foot on the bumper. I drove around and my frame sits about 2-3inches off my axle and I was bottoming out on every litle bump in the road. To me it was like I had no shocks. It seems like they tried to make them too comfortable and didn't make them stiff enough to control your suspension. When I get my toxic's I will give you a honest report about too if you want to hear it cause i'm not product pregidous but I do know when I see junk.
