Why won't R/T rims tuck?

This truck is doing it, they are stock R/T rims, 2" control arms, and bags. In back is a stock rear end (not narrowed), reverse triangulated 4-link, and a C notch.

I know, I love that truck, its not mine, but mine looks exactly like it, lol. All the suspension on that truck is from Brislands ( www.brislands.com ) They make all their own parts, including the control arms. That truck has the kit from Brislands for the front, which has 2600lb firestone bags (to the best of my knowledge.) I don't know the exact tire size, but the shop told me they thought it was a 35 series tire. I have no idea what compressor he uses, or any of that.

Laying frame??? Are you kidding, this guy isn't even laying his front crossmember out. He probably has bags in the front but no other drop (spindles/control arms) and in the back I would be surprised to see anything more than a c-notch. This guy isn't tucking wheel much less tire in the back. To tuck wheel the wheel has to disappear inside the fender. As you can see from this angle if he slams the back with a step notch and a 4link the tires will go up into the flare and probably rub the bed side. You have to havve more of an offset too slam the truck on larger wheels not to mention there would be no way to do rt rims on a bd. I think they are 19mm on 8 or 9 inch rim which won't work. You need a good 40mm positive offset to ensure the wheels not only fit in under the flares but up and even with the bed panel as well. I guarantee you this frame is at least 3 inches off the ground.

I agree that it may not be laying frame, I think the frame is about 1.5-2" MAX from the ground. If he removed the inner fenders it would lay frame no problem, especially with the alignment like that. I know that when my truck is layed out the front bumper will touch the ground.

This truck has stock fenders, the lips are still on them, you can tuck with R/T rims if you cut the lips off the fenders.

The only thing stopping that tuck in the front are the tops of the inner fenders.

Regardless of how you want to define "tucked" that truck is badass.

Ok, it is nice, I agree. But here is the cold hard truth about the wheels. The front will tuck cause they will camber in. The back will not unless you shorten the axle. You see, I don't know how low your truck sits, buy my wheels and tires come up past the lip and flares and stand along inside the bed panel. You can see from the pic that the wheel and tire will fit into the flare but when your riding 20's and still laying frame your wheels and tire goes up higher than the flare and will rub where the flare starts to fade back into the body. I have completely removed all my fenders. I have pics to prove this, I just didn't want anybody else to burn the paint off their body like I did. I dragged with these wheels and when I layed completely out in the rear the tires weren't "in" far enough to cear the bed side so it burnt the paint off where the rubber rubbed and got hot. There is only one way to define tucked. You can tuck tire, wheel, or lug. In this pic he is tucking tire up front, but in the back he has just closed the gap but isn't tucking anything.

I had a question about the truck if anyone can give me an answer.... that person can't ride at that height correct. Well yeah going str8 but he'd have to air it up when turning right? Also how do you know how much air to keep in your bags at ride height. I heard you can only ride with a certain amount in the bag. With this being said, this truck would only have about a 4/6" drop at ride height correct because any lower it would rub alot because the rims are inline with the fenders... I'm really not sure but it just makes sense, so if anyone knows the answers let me know please.. Hence the reason people get rims with a 40mm+ offset. And no i'm not hating I love that truck.. It's so sick. And Ian, do you have any pics of your truck by any chance..
Thanks guys
Mike

You align your truck at a certain pressure and you drive at that pressure to maintain alignment. You can go above or below that but it will cause more wear to your tires. Them rims you have to keep straight as an arrow which sucks. But with a 40mm offset you can cut almost lock to lock without rubbing. What you should do is air all the way down and cut your wheel to the point where the tire is close to rubbing and keep in mind if your this low don't cut the wheel any more than this. Since the back are always straight you can ride around all the time with the back slammed but it will ride like a$$ with no air pressure in the bag. You will probably find yourself riding around in the front at 90-110psi and around 20-40psi in the back. This is with a v8. A v6 might require less pressure in the front to get a good ride height. 90/20 hides my tires totally and about 70/10 i start scraping and i can drop to 0/0 going down the road but not only does my dragblocks drag, my crossmember and exhaust will to. You just need to eye everything down before you take it out on the road.

Thats with the front tires laying on the wheel wells, crossmember about 3" from the ground. I just got my R/T rims today, I'll post new pics when I get them on next week.

The back is also not finished yet, only 3" blocks in rear, got all the parts in my bedroom though, lol.

I just got my R/T rims on, and they rub less then the stock 16's did, I can now turn lock-to-lock with out the tires hitting the shocks. I have 245/45/17's. The cross member gets to about 1" off the ground before the tires hit the insides of the wells, so I have to do a little cuttin.

As for the back it looks like it should fit, but if it doesn't I might try to push the rear wells out (there is an article in MiniTruckin about doing it, but that idea scares me!)

I'll try to post some pics later tonight or tommorow if I get time.

This might be a long shot or crazy thinking! But couldnt a rim/machine shop. Take off about a quarter of a inch off the back of the rim so it would tuck? Or notch the bed of the truck behind the fender flare lip. So the tire would fit and all you would see is flare?

The 9" wide R/T rims with a 245/45/17 tire tuck until the truck lays on the crossmember, there is no need to narrow the rim in the front it does not rub unless you are all the way down and try to turn lock-to-lock, and in the rear you have to narrow the rear end or trim the lips off the wheel wells.

Narrowing the wheel will not change how much the wheel sticks out.

I will post pics of my truck with the R/T rims when I get home from work tonight :)

Actually what he's talking about would ian because it changes the bs and offset. NOt the actually width of the rim but take off the backside of where the wheel bolts up. But most wheels don't have that extra amount of metal on the bolt-up face to remove. They are made like they are ....for strength. If you have billet wheels you can rehoop them. With rt rims your pretty much screwed unless you narrow the axle or rebuild the sheetmetal to stick out further or add bigger 4x4 flares.

just to answer the damn question. the r/t rims will fit. it just depends on how far you're willing to go to do it. the front will go without really any problems. the back however, needs a little persuading. it will NOT work "properly" without narrowing the rear end. i say properly because you can shave the flare and cut out the actual side of the body that is under the flare to make it work. but, this way is not the way to go. with the flares off, the r/t rims stick out past the bed side at least 1/4". i know this because my r/t is bagged and i've had the r/t rims on whle it was bagged.
