Subject: 6.5" or 6.75" offset? IP: Logged
Message: Which is it that puts the wheel in the center of the fender? I wanna get some new wheels so when the bags hit the truck I can tuck the tire as far into the fender as possible. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Message: I have not seen a wheel that will tuck on a dodge dakota unless its custom made and higher than hell like boze alloy, colorado custom, and boyd coddington to name a few. On top of that most of them are billet and 500 for a 18 or 20 incher. You almost need a front wheel drive wheel to tuck on this thing. Also I think you are talking backspacing cause offsets are usually measured metric. I know on a 20x9 you need at least 7 inches backspacing. Give in and shorten your axle.

Message: Yes, you will most likey have to narrow the rear axle, or you can call HP motorsports in cali and have a set custom made for you, since I already had my bag set up completly done and the 4 link powdercoated and welded in, shortening the axle would cost hella money, so these guys made me a set of lexani slates, with a 6 3/4 offset on a fwd rim in a 20x8 so it will tuk and lay frame. hope this help..check out my profile on streetsource mag under thrownsprks....later

Message: I'm with tuckin18. I got a set of boyds 18x8 with 6.5" of backspacing. Then I machined the rear rims another 1/4 off the inner hub and trimmed the rearfender lip to tuck.
Just out of curiosity.... has anyone ACUALLY shortend there rear axle. I keep hearing "you have to!" but I never heard or seen anyone acually go through it?

Message: I know that the light blue 88 dakota (can't remember profile name) on streetsource had his shorten alot. I just got me some custom machined 20x8.5's with a 42mm offset and they tuck in hard. My dust cap on the spindle sticks out the same amount as the entire wheel. I can now drop the front crossmember on the ground and almost turn lock to lock. They rub a little when in front when doing this cause the wheel sits so far in. This is with a 30 series tire.
