Subject: Hotchkis kit & 275/45-20 tires IP: Logged
Message: I sold my old lowering kit and got a new Hotchkis suspension (2" coils, 3" leafs) on my 1999 Dakota R/T. Now I am getting 20's really soon and i dont know what size tire to get. I dont want it to rub at all. Will a 275/45-20 size tire rub with this kit? thanks,
-Matt

Message: yes, but in the front. 45 is just a tad too high.
it will rub even more unless you have the bilsteins in ther too firm things up.
i run coils, leafs, shocks on 295/40/20s and i might rub once a day on a good dip (at 70) or uneven bump on the road in town.
keep the rears and see if you can score some 255/35

Message: How do you like the Hotchkis package? Does it stiffen up the handling and ride? Did you get the sway bars as well? I've been thinking of purchasing the total vehicle package with the bilstien shocks. Was the install difficult or do you think its something the average do-it-yourselfer can handle??

Message: you can do the install yourself. the rear leafs and shocks were time consuming but straightforward. just RTFM and set aside an afternoon.
the fronts are a little more involved... there are some good tips floating around here. use the search to pull them up.
i don't have the sways in (yet). still a little costly. the ride is much firmer, but way more precise. i prefer the ride much better than stock (of course the previous car was an MR2). its tracks better and feels more stable in the corners.
