Subject: ART Front Cool Ride Kit IP: Logged
Message: I have my front AR Tech. front Cool Ride kit, and am about ready to put it on. I am just awaiting my chrome viair compressor and the smc valves. Anyone who has this kit, how hard is it to install? Is this something I can do without a lot of modifying? I want to do everything myself then take it to work to get the shocks welded. Does anyone have any pictures of their setup? I am not sure exactly how the shocks mount, the instructions are not real in depth. Also what needs to be shaved? The direction say something has to be shaved a bit so the bags wont rub. Anyone with any info I would greatly appreciate it. You can also email me at dodgep0wer@yahoo.com

Message: I had the Shockwaves on my '98, so I'm not real familar with the Cool Ride, however, I'm very familar with the "vague" instructions from Air Ride.
I'll try to give you my experience with the Shockwave bags and that may or may not help you with the Cool Ride.
First of all, make sure that the top of the spring pocket is open enough to clear your fittings. That way you won't run into crushed fittings that may fail going down the road. On the first generation Shockwaves, the fittings were very close to the factory channels that help to center the spring in the frame. So I trimmed those out to help with clearence, but I've noticed that the 2nd generation Shockwaves have angled tops to help with the fitting placement.
Next, place the bag in it's position, and see how close you are to the actual opening of the frame that goes up into the spring pocket. If you're close to that diameter then you may as well trim the entire opening to the pocket. Also, eliminate the welded on bump stop bracket to increase your opening to accept the bags, but don't forget your bags will swell when inflated. So, once you get the bags in place, and you're ready to try it out, double check the clearence, or you will rub while going down the road, and make sure all edges are smoothed and deburred. A file will help but a good grinder will make short work of it.
As far as your shocks; I think that they mount to the rear of the lower A-arm, and then mount to the top of the frame...at least that's what I've seen on the pictures (I'm sure that's what you've seen as well).
I think that the main thing to watch on that is the stroke of the shock, so it's not in a bind as it absorbs the road conditions. If you're not 100% sure, just call the boys at Air Ride Technologies and they will help...hopefully more than the instructions.
I hope that this helped a little, but like I mentioned earlier, I had the Shockwaves, not the Cool Ride.

The shock mounting is the hardest part, once you get the positioning down yor headaches are over.
You have to cut quite a bit out of the frame also, but if you have a torch it isn't very hard.
I have alot of pics of "in-progress" email me if you still want more.
