Subject: bangin the rear axle IP: Logged
Message: I dropped my R/T 4" in the rear with a Belltech hanger/shackle set up and have hardly any suspension travel left. I bang the Belltech bumpstops on anything bigger than a pebble in the road. Will drop shocks stiffen up the rear enough to eliminate this? I have stock r/t shocks still on now. Also, my right side sits slightly higher than the left in the rear. Could this also be due to length and compression of stock shocks? any info would be helpful...thanks

Message: Shocks arent going to change the ride height. New shocks will stiffen up the ride but 4" of drop rests the axle right on the bumpstops. It probably looks badass but a 3" drop would have been more practical. I did it with ground force leafs and i still have a payload of around 400lbs or so.

Message: Well you can try shaving your bumpstops a bit but not to much! Aftermarket shocks are a must for a drop that much! Team fast is right new shocks wont change the ride height but will stiffen it! Tell ya what man you might be better off getting stock Dakota leaf springs because the R/T leafs are 1 inch drop! That is if you wanna raise it up any! If you dont wanna raise it up, the c notch is your only option! What do you have in the front for a drop? You could also put in some stock dakota springs if you still have the r/t springs in!

Message: I figured as much on the c-notch... just a matter of time and money. Any ideas why the left is sitting slightly lower than the right rear side? Shock preference as well...i was thinking about the nitro active. The front is dropped using 3" djm control arms... it has a mean stance.

And as for it sitting higher on the right... its cause you sit on the left, Its gonna get more wear. Think about it.

Message: I have a slammed dakota that has about 1 1/2" travel in the rear. The shocks I have do the trick, Doeschtech, I think that's how it's spelled, lol. The other shocks I have found you can't go wrong with is Belltech, they're a bit more expensive but are a more reputible company, I've used them on an S-10. As for riding off level, it may be that you tweeked something bottoming out, I've personally busted a leaf from worn out shocks allowing it to bottom hard. Check out all your suspension, measure with a tape and compare with thte other side to see if you can pin point it, it's a shot in the dark, but worth a try. Good luck.

Message: mine sat lower on one side too even when gas tank was not full. so i just put blocks in i lowered one side with 2 inch blocks and machined the other 2 inch block down enough so it would be level with the other side. i also wanted to lower the back more. you could use 1 inch blocks and only do one side with the cut down block
