 Subject: Replace or Lower?

Have a couple questions. I have a 97 Dak and the ball joints are shot...seems to be a very common problem around here. Should I replace them(along with the control arms according to the dealer) or just go with a lowering kit? Will the kit give me everything I need to replace them including the control arms and ball joints? Also, Where do you go to have something like this put on? I've called a few places but no luck. I am in the Clearwater/st. Pete area of FL. Thanks!

Call sport truck Direct or go to sporttruckdirect.com and get the 3/5 Deluxe Drop lowering kit. It's like $620 and it comes with arms and ball joints. It's a good kit.

That's the one I've been looking at, except I'll probably get the 2/4. Where the hell do you get this kind of stuff put on? And how much should it cost to get the kit installed?

well, it's not too bad if you've done it before, or at least watched someone do it. definitely go the aftermarket route and drop it like DakotaR said.
but as far as shops that'll do it, remind me where St. Pete/Clearwater are in Florida: by Tampa?? by Orlando? more north? (i hate geography)
I'm from south FL, go to school at UF.
i'll get back to u on what shops are where when i remember/look for them. Peace

you could just get Moog ball joints and replace them yourself. They cost maybe 70 each and are definatly worth it. I did a 3/5 drop with just the lower control arms and the moog ball joints. Its working out really good.

I'm thinking about dropping my dak 4 to 6, and was wondering if anyone has done the same and if you came across any problems with the wheels hitting anywhere. Thanx!

with my 3/5 kit i had problems with the front always hitting. My tire got pretty chewed up from hitting the inside of the fender. Fixed this by making custom bump stops.

a 3/5 isn't that low. it's really just right. it wont bump or rub with the right size tires. You can find someone selling the stuff used on here i'm sure and you will save a lot of $$$$ I have a 3/5 and I want to go lower. probably a 4/6.

if i had the tools and everything i need with me(its all back home in my parent's garage!:), i'd tell u to drive an hour or 2 up here to gainesville and I'd do it!
but, the one shop i know of around there is Hatchet House Kustoms, in Sarasota(that's close to there, right??). the guy that runs it is Eric, he has a BADASS dakota! i've talked to him on here, he's cool; they do air suspension and everything, so i'm sure it'll be no problem! i'm sure there's plenty shops in Tampa, but this is the only close that i know, and eric knows dakotas and he might hook a fellow owner up! all i know is his email tho: dubkota@aol.com Tell him i sent u there!

Thanks dude! Sarasota is pretty far (about 2 hours), but I'll try contacting him and see if he knows anybody closer to me. If not I may have to make a road trip out of it. I'll let ya know how it worked out.

LOL, told u i suk at geography (even in my own state). i actually have a friend in my club that lives in tampa right now! I totally forgot about him!! I'll talk to him if u cant find any, he should know some!! AND.... if u want to join a club.... he's lookin for people to start a chapter there, dont know how far out of tampa u r tho. Progmeti, sorry, i finally heard from my friend in tampa, and he doesn't know anything! i'm sure there are some there, u might be able to find someone with a nice truck around there to tell u. or maybe go to www.acrophobia.net they're a BIG club with a chapter in tampa. most of em are pretty cool guys, especially russ (i think). if one of em doesn't own a shop, i'm SURE they have one they go to. they might be more expensive than hatchethouse tho. sorry i cant help more. good luck, and get pics when its done!
