I've read here on some posts that some of you either cut or take off the rear 2" bumper stop when lowering your Dakota. What would be the advantage of that and when would you want to do it? Thanks.

i think your talking about the bump stops. they are what keep your axle from hitting the frame. you can cut them down or buy new ones, depending on how much your gonna lower it. if its like a 2/4 drop. you shouldnt need it. or just cut them down. when i had my truck just lowered. the kit for a 3/5 came with 3/8" pancake style urenthane bumpstops. but you can buy em for like 10. hope i answered your question.

hey ray, take the stock one out because i lowered mine 3 inches in the rear and the bump stop sat on the rear end, rode terrible. replace them with a screw in type. DJM makes them and many lowered truck places will have a exact fit. advantage, more travel between the frame and rear end housing.!!

Because I just lowered my Dakota R/T and the rear ride is horrible. It is very tight so that means it is very bouncy. Very bad ride. Front seems to be fine. I used a 3" drop coil in front and a 4" rear block. I do need to change the 4" block to a 3" because right now the truck is level which makes the rear look lower. The 3" block will make the truck look right. Do you guys think that I'm riding on the bump stop now which is causing my rough ride?

I just went under my truck and my axle is resting on the bump stop. That explains my rough ride. I'll cut them down or get new ones. Thanks.

Whatever you do....dont remove them all together.
When you hit a dip or pot hole it will slam metal to metal. I cut 1.25 inches off the rear and it clears great on 4" blocks.
