The little ballast resistor on your firewall...

near the wiper motor, I think....

About $10 and 10 minutes to replace, if I remember correctly

Make sure the exhaust is not plugged ;)

I don't know how many mechanics I've seen look for spark, fuel, timing and compression only to find out the cat had melted down and plugged the exhaust.

My former '92 5.2L dropped the engine computer at 160K...engine would shut off for 2-3 seconds while driving. I went to the 25-horse performance computer as a replacement (requires 93 octane). Ran great. Check the distibutor cap and rotor for carbon buildup. Hey..the '92 and '93 5.2's had the largest inside diameter exhaust manifolds, one reason the power fell off in '94 (230hp/280tq in '93, 220/295 in '94).

I have seen this caused by a corroded splice in the wire harness that runs under the washer bottle/near battery. I'll assume you have no spark or fuel, sometimes the computer will not allow communication with a scan tool as well. If this sounds familiar, open up the wire harness, and check - you are looking for a red wire with a white stripe, follow it in both directions if you have to. It will be spliced to two or three other wires, this is where it corrodes. Cut it out, and repair by soldering and shrink wrapping the joint.

sorry, missed the fact you stated about having fuel and spark - are the injectors actually pulsing (delivering fuel into engine)? Also, could be a jumped timing chain

Check the powertrain control module fuse. It is a 30 amp fuse in the power distribution center which is next to the battery under the hood. Use to be a dealer item, but now you can get it at most any parts store.

If your seeing just one spark when your cranking, check under your distributer cap for your mag pickup plate. It's a pice of plasit with a coil in it and in the path of an expantion pin on the shaft if it starts to come out.

first try clean your battery terminals then check your starter and spark plugs. On my 93 dakota LE would do the same thing

bludakman,

A jumped timing chain would show it self as low compression.

Mine did the same thing.
I changed the oil in it.
I didn't change the oil at the
alloted miles/months and the sensor
in the motor wouldn't let it start.
The sensor in it is there so that
you don't do no damage to the engine.
By the way, I'm having cruise control
problems, do you know how to fix it?
My fuse is okay.
I wish I had a diagram of the cruise
control system.
Thanks,
Roland
