Subject: Shaker Hood????
IP: Logged

Message:
I am interested in finding or designing a shaker hood for gen2 dak's If anybody knows anything about these polease help. Also is it possible that a repro from a cuda would fit a 91-96 hood? What would you have to do and what kind of measurements would you need to design one?
Thanks

I assume you know about the shaker available for later models. http://www.profinish-proglass.com/ Why not see if you can use their shaker (if they will sell it alone) and do a cutout in the stock hood. I had seen where Terry from Pro Glass said the original Cuda shaker is huge and would just about go all the way to the front of the hood.

I think making the hood itself would be easy. It's the air cleaner assembly that would be hard. Can you use the same assembly that the late model Dakotas use? If so, I have some free time on my hands, I could work on something and see what I can come up with. I would like to have this hood also.

I also thought the same thing about the later model shaker hood. I talked to the guys at proglass and they said that it wouldnt work because of the scale size as we|l ac the spacingbut he wasnt really sure from what it sounded like he didnt say that he had tried it so it may or may not I did talk to him about the possibility of him designing one for them and he said that he would need a truck and that it would caost me around $500+ and a 1.5days in the shop to come up with one but I think i would start by getting the dimensions of the original and scale them down but i have so far been unable to find any scale drawings.

Since the engines are the same in the Gen III Dakotas as they are in the Gen II's, I was thinking of starting with the air cleaner/intake setup and working from there. Simply, it's just a hood with a hole in. Of course there are a few more things than that, but that's the basic idea.

The only difference in engines was in 91 the engines had the TBI setup and they switched to multiport in 92 But i think the intakes on the two engines are different I have a M1 style intake but u think the mag has the keg style

I am not sure how the shake scoop is set up, but I think it should be the same on all GenII's. The TB setup is the same as the mags, only difference is the injector location, as far as intake goes. So I think the scoop is the same. Assuming that I am right, I think the scoop from the GenIII shaker hoods, should fit the Gen II hoods. Then it is a matter of cutting the hood so the scoop can fit through it. Of course I could be totally wrong about everything, in which case, somebody please correct me.

Yes the injectors are in a different place but will the spacing between the top of the tb's and the hood be the same?? I would think they would be because they both use an air cleaner box setup and not the airhat like the gen3

What are you guys willing to pay for the scoop part of the shacker hood for the GenI or GenII V-8 Dakota? My shop can make a kit with the scoop and a templet to cut your hood if there is a good enough demand. I made a bunch of side pipes for the Dakotas and didn't sell one set. Still have the drawings but I had to trash all the parts. (took up too much room)

I would be willing to pay $100-200 depending on quality and what it came with. If you do come up with one take some pics of it. Also is it fiberglass or carbon fiber?

I would be interested as well. I would be willing to pay whatever the going rate for Dakota hoods is. I just bought my Dakota so I never really looked into it. But I would definitely pay a fair price.

Thanks

An Idea/Concern on the Shaker Hood Kit.
Since it looks like a do-it-yourself kit. I would like to see a metal or plastic trim piece that fits in the hole and extends an 1-inch or so beyond the opening in the hood. It would give it a finished look like gen 3 hoods and cover up any mistakes

I think most of us here can build our own do-it-yourself kit. I am looking for the hood and scoop. I can cut my own hood and make it fit, no need to pay for it. The only reason I would pay for it is because I need a now hood anyway and I am hoping they would make it out of fiberglass.

Just my thoughts
Dan

Well for those who misread my post the
"the shaker hood kit"- as in shaker scoop and rest of airbox above tb.
"do-it-yourself" cutting the hole out youself and installing shaker scoop youself.
"metal or plastic trim piece" something to hide the edge of the sheet metal so you dont see an ugly cut-out in hood.

hey guys, i had a hood made for me by this company XR8ED LIDDS.

www.xr8edlidds.com.

When they made mine the guy said why don't we make you a shaker, i wanted a cowl and thats what they made me, but they said that they coould easily make me a new shaker hood.
They are in Hamilton Ontario though. But if you are in the area id highly recomend them. They were cheap too. I paid 850 for my hood and a wiper cowl, comparted to 1600 Can. for a keystone goodhood.

hope it helps

It can be done. You just have to know what you're doing, or be a good guesser. Pick up a spare hood from a junkyard and measure and cut, that way you dont screw up your good one, if it works, use it, if it doesnt, junk it. I was going to put one on my 89 dakota when I did the engine swap, but I ended up just dropping in another 3.9L instead of a 360, so I just left it stock.

You have two options for finding just the shaker...

Talk to http://www.profinish-proglass.com - they're the original manufacturers of the Shaker hood. They recently sold their molds, but maybe they have some leftover inventory they haven't tossed yet.

http://www.keystonerestyling.com is the new owner/producer of the Shaker hood - maybe they can sell you a shaker separately.
