Subject: Front end Squeak IP: Logged
Message: I have this extremely annoying squeak in my front end. When the truck is parked I can bounce it up and down and hear it. I crawled underneath there and it sounds like it is coming from the coil spring area. I took out the shock and it was still there. I have replaced all the ball joints about 3 months ago with the Moog ones. I also have replaced the upper control arm bushings too. At the same time I greased up the sway bar bushings and it is definitly not them. Here's something funny(or it might help). When I make left or right turns on a flat or a bumpy surface the noise goes away. When I drive straight it is as loud as hell. Sounds like a squeaky bushing. Any help would be great..Thanks

Message: Jay I had a terrible squeak emanating from my front end as well. Tried everything to no avail. Finally isolated the noise to the sway bar bushings. Had to remove the sway bar (BE CAREFULL) its under a lot of tension. As for retensioning it (putting the bushings back in and tightening down the sway bar clamps) its best that you get a large prybar and a helper to facilitate re-installing it. I rubbed some never-seize on the bushings where they contact the swaybar and buttoned it up. Was quiet as a mouse for months. But I am hearing some squeaking lately. Your mileage may vary. Good luck,
Kev

Message: It's most likely the outer sway bar bushings. Lots of talk about that over the years. Remove them, clean with whatever, apply a little Mobile 1 synthetic wheel bearing grease, and re-assemble. That should cure it.
