Message: I know I can't possibly be the only one whose tranny acts funny on cold mornings so I thought I would share this with the group! I live in SC so I can rarely test it below 20deg., but it has been in the 20's here of late(at night). Put the parking brake on and warm it up in nuetral instead of park- I did mine 10 - 15 minutes 3 times now and it takes off like it's been driven all day!!

Message: Yep, I know, it gets the fuild warm and the lock up convertor works. If I start my cold, outside in the 30's, it will take it several miles for the convertor to "lock up".

Message: The temp based shift programing is not anythig to worry about. DC has 4 different temp based shift programs. It might cut down slightly on gas miliage but it will not hurt anything. I would be more worried about the fluid you have in your tranny.

Message: That's a negative on the tranny fluid Sandman. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. I've talked with several Gen III-45RFE owners at work -ranging from a few K to 70K miles and all say the same thing. No matter how long you warm it up in park when it's cold it's gotta travel several hundred feet high revving until it finally will shift to second. Then all is well. Near as I can tell everyone on this site loves their trucks so much They just don't want to admit they experience the same inconveniences on cold mornings. I was just trying to share the little trick I had tried!!!Happy New Year everyone!!!

Message: greenslt,
I live in North-WI so am familiar with what you are describing. You say high reving for several hundred feet. This sounds more like the clutch fan locks up on cold mornings. I experienced this "normal" behaviour and so I removed my clutch fan (truck has an elec fan too, which is left in place) and the high reving sound went away. Now I have just the clutch convertor "unlocked" for a distance of 1/2 to 3 miles depending on temp. I do not wait for my truck to warm up, I just drive off nice and easy until temp comes up and clutch convertor locks. 37-years in the cold north, I don't have enough time to waste 10-15 min 2-4 times per day warming my truck all winter! :-)
Good luck.

Message: It's just the first time for a few mintutes after it has sat all night dabart. Then it's good to go the rest of the day till it sits overnight again. Not as laborious as every time you get in or anything. I just hope it doesn't affect the longetivity of the tranny cause in all my life I have never had a tranny act like these newfangled mopars! And I'll be 40 next year so I ain't exactly green!!!
