Message: forget the tape, the battery disconnect may work - until the condition that caused the light to come on in the first place reoccurs. Check the fuses, also - if your vehicle is equipped with cruise control does it still work? Does your horn work. The clocksping behind the steering wheel of these vehicles carries the electrical connections and allows you to turn without wrapping wires around in circles. They are prone to breakage. I have also seen many with poor contact; sometimes simply unplugging the connectors going into and out of it helps. Be careful if you remove the horn pad/airbag module from the steering wheel, if you are not comfortable handling a pyrotechnic device capable of 3500 lbs of thrust - let a pro diagnose and correct it for you.

Message: I have a 2001 QC 4X4 4.7l. I have the same deal with the airbag light, but only in the winter months for the last 2 years. I'm kind of thinking maybe there's moisture in there and freezing up?!? ALthough it doesn't go away even once the cab has warmed up. Anyone think the airbag still functions properly even if the light keeps coming on?

Message: The airbag light on my '95 came on (and stayed on) in summer of 2001. I recall paying around $400 for the dealer to fix it, something to do with the sensor.

Message: 2004 dodge dakota, my air bag light is on and has been all
summer. How do I get it off I tried taking the neg battery thing off
and then turning the key to start. That did not work, I am now
trying to just take the neg cable off for 15 min or so to see if that
works. I know it wont pass safety and emissions if it is on. Please
help.

Message: i had the problem on my 03. i spoke to a chrysler retiree who worked on repairs on the end of the assembly line. he suggested to disable the air bag as per factory instructions, remove the air bag from the steering wheel and crimp the wires going to the airbag. i did as he said and the light has been out for 4 years now. sorry, i forget how to disable the airbag.

Message: 2002 Dakota, I had a air bag lamp on after removing dash to replace heater core. A single wire on passenger side air bag harness got pinched on re: assembly causing "short to ground" on passenger air bag side. The air bags were still functional. The tiny lamp inside the passenger side switch burnt out causing air bag lamp to stay on. The lamp is a (73LL- sylvannia)about $5 bucks or so for a pack of two. It has to be soldered in, (or just buy a new switch). Remove the dash panel cover it's attached to,3 screws then take switch apart, there's a spring inside ,peel out slow then re assemble. Piece of cake !

Message: Upon reading several (messages) ,I noticed a lot of guys are not taking the extra caution needed servicing the air bag systems. Before doing any service work, pull the fuses for all of the air bags in the fuse panel, also pull the horn fuse too, just in case there's a feed back on the ground side of things. Proceed to disconnect both sides of the battery terminals . All air bag lights should clear if the circuit is free of problems . Lastly, any other gauges not working could also disable the air bag system such as, speedometer, tachometer, or any other gauge not working. You should be good to go at that point on. Be safe always !
