Message: Ok, i need real help.. i cant get that big nut broke loose on the fan clutch. I am putting so much pressure on the nut, im afraid im gonna break the pulley or shaft itself. I have used a large wrench with a three foot cheater bar and i think im gonna break a lot of stuff in there. I had the water pump replaced by a shop a few months ago, and i think they over-tightened the nut. Anyone got any suggestions? im desperate...

Message: I just removed mine a few weeks ago, but its a 2002 model and probably hasnt had time time to really tighten. I got mine off by quickly tapping the end of the wrench with a hammer. I didnt even hold the pulley in place, I think the quick pop with the hammer just jars it loose. It was a tip I got froma guy on this board.
PS: I'm kinda glad to see R.C. go, he was too conservative for this day and age.

Message: Yeah, R.C. is a good person, but not a very good football coach. Anyway, im sure yours hasnt had the time to lock up like mine did. With me and a three foot cheater bar, i still cant bust that bastard loose. A quick tap aint gonna work this time, im afraid. Thanks for the tip though!

Message: I have a 93 so im not sure this will help. I used a very large slotted screwdriver. I set it close to the edge of the nut and tapped it with a hammer. It should come loose after a few taps. I'm sure this is no good for the water pump bearing, but i was replacing the pump anyway. I remember trying for hours before i talked to a garage, so i hope this helps!

Message: I also have a 97' with a v6 that has 111k miles. I just removed my fan 2 weeks ago without too much trouble. I first sprayed the area with some PB B'laster lubricant. A little more expensive than Liguid Wrench but it worked here and on removing the studs during my header installation. I used a large screwdriver as a wedge to keep the shaft from moving. I then used a adjustable wrench on the BIG nut and hit it with a hammer to break it loose.

Message: Just to clarify. It is a LEFT hand thread. That mean turn it to the left (counter clockwise) to TIGHTEN so turn it to the right to loosen. Bolt threads are ALWAYS defined by the direction you turn it to tighten it.
If you are getting hot while sitting still then your fan clutch may be bad.
