Message: Is a HO alternator needed for towing a small 2800lb travel trailer? If I installed one would I need anything else to hook it up right?(besides trailer wiring) Also, external trans cooler?

Message: Not a bad idea to get an upgraded alternator, but you probably don't need one. If your truck has fogs or air conditioning it should have a larger than standard alternator anyway. If you do get a larger one, it will bolt up with no mods needed.
A trans cooler is a must! The quickest way to destroy a trans is by towing a trailer with no cooler. A larger trans pan isn't a bad idea either.
Good luck.
