Message: Running an engine for a short time, in cold weather, is not a good idea. The oil doesn't get hot enough to burn off water, acids and other products of combustion. It would be better to get someone to drive the car 10 to 15 miles once every week or so. If that's not possible, connect an automatic trickle charger to keep the battery charged up. You may want to pull the plugs and spray some WD-40 in the cylinders for rust protection.

Message: If you live anywhere near Kansas City, I'd be happy to drive it about 100 miles a week for you. Not only would I park it in a garage at home but I also park in a garage at work. So it really wouldn't see much of the winter elements ... other than the salt and sand on my way to and fro work.

Message: I have been winterizing Motorcycles for ten years now every winter.
I used to pull the pluggs coat them with oil, put them back, empty the gas tank coat that with a thin coat of oil, put it back on, take the battery in doors and place on a block of wood.
Now I top off the tank with premium, add a fuel adative to soakup water (Stay-ble)
and start the thing once a week.
Topping off the tank keeps moisture from condensing in the fuel tank, stay-ble soaks up any that might have got in.
Start the engine and let warm up to operating temp. I store my cycle for 4 to 5 months this way with no problems.
A 2 month jont should be no problem at all.
I would top off the tank with premium, add an adative and call it good.
If you want someone to drive it once a week that would keep it running tip top.
Pull the battery and put inside (out of the cold) not on concrete, I use a block of wood or a Microsoft book.
this will keep the battery from draining while you are gone. If you want to charge it before you start it for the first time, that might help.
All in all I think it will be fine.
Pull the battery and forget about it.

Message: Yes fill the tank and add fuel stabilizer then run it for 10 min. or so to circ. the stabilizer.
Then I would get fogging oil usually used in PWC and boats and spray it down the throttle body while the truck is running until you get a decent amount of smoke out of the exhaust. WD 40 will NOT coat the internals good enough where as fogging oil will. Seadoo makes a good one much better than the Honda fogging oil.
Also if you can put it on blocks as this will help the suspension as well as the tires.
Just disconnect the neg. terminal and the batt should be ok. That should do it.
AND
God bless you and your fellow service men for your duty. Take care and come back home.

Message: When we had to store my brother's 96 Ram 2500 /w a 360 last summer, and part of fall, I would just take it for a nice 10-15 mile drive once a week and run it pretty hard for 2-3 miles. By running hard I mean I topped it out an ran about 120mph for a few miles.
The only thing that it needed when he got back was new brake pads and an oil change. He was gone for 6 months.

Message: I have had three Dakotas since '92, whenerver I went TDY overseas (< 60 days), I just parked it under a carport or in a garage, if it's more than say, 60 days I would do the above except the running it up to 120 MPH, that is just asking for a grenaded motor, good luck in the desert
