Subject: fuel pump ?? IP: Logged
Message: Ok, I have a 2K1, 4.7 QC 4whldr with 60k miles. The last 8K miles or so, it has been difficult to start. After sitting for 15-20 minutes, I turn the key, it cranks, but does not fire over. Shut the key off, crank again, sometimes a third time, and it fires right up. From what I read in some posts, it could be the fuel pump, probably loosing pressure. I have 3 basic questions, for now. One, how much is a fuel pump, two, how difficult is it to change one, and three,
am I safe to assume it is in the gas tank ?
Thanks

Message: Not sure about the cost of the newer ones, but yes it is in the tank, and it is easiest to undo the 8 or so bed bolts and lift the bed with a friend, the pump will be right there. If you undo the tank from the underside it is a bitC% to get the straps back on. The cost of a new pump may be around $220-$400.

Message: It could be the Crank Position Sensor, This sensor burns out on alot of Daks. Which could be the cause of your starting problem. Have you been getting any codes??

Message: Three words. Dealer Dealer Dealer. Before you spend all your money on fuel pump ,crank sensor, cam sensor, coil pk,or whatever; you can have it diagnosed at a dealership for about $40 to $80. Then do the repair yourself if you'd like. It will save you alot of money in the long run.
