Subject: towing mirrors/backup light
IP: Logged

Message:
I own a 2k1 QC 4.7. I have seen towing mirrors by CIPA that slide over and clamp on a trucks existing mirror. Unfortunately my truck is equipped with sport mirrors, which they do not make one for. I would like to know if anyone know of another manufacturer that makes simliar mirrors. The ones CIPA have really blend in well with the truck, and not the big fender strap ons.

Also, I would like to know the best way to hook up an auxiliary light on the rear end with a toggle switch in the cab. I tow a trailer once in a while, and this would help in backing up and connecting the trailer. I have an extra light that was purchased from NAPA, it has a heavy rubber coating on the outside, mounting bolt of course, and a singe wire protruding. My first thought is to run it directly to the battery with the switch in the middle.

Sorry for the long post.
Thanks

Anthony,
Can't help you too much with the mirror issue, but as far as the back-up light, I'd suggest you find a circuit off the accessory fuse block, and install your switch where ever it'll look good. I'd also suggest you install an in-line fuse of a size appropriate to the load of the lamp. Clean off all paint under the mounting bracket for the lamp as the bracket is your grounding point. [A lit switch will help show the light is "on". Cops look with significant disfavor on any "back-up" light being lit when you're cruising down the highway. Instant citation!!]
