Banks Engineering fit the dang motor into a dakota. Yes they had to really move the firewall further into the cab, but it fit finally, and they made the world's fastest truck out of it!

Actually the engine is already mounted. It does clear the rad. support without cutting the firewall and its not too tall to fit under the hood. If you would like to see pictures of it in the engine compartment send me youe e-mail address and I will forwar you the pictures. If i had a buck for all the people that said that a solid axle couldn't be put into a Dakota I would have enough money to finance my diesel project.

I installed a 4cyl diesel engine in my 93 2wd ext. cab and I get about 27 city hwy. The engine compartment has enough room for about anything. The whole job took about 40 hrs. It didn't require much modification.

me and my son dropped a 4bta in a 2004 dakota quad cab it had a 3.9 V6 with a 5 speed. we had an adapter made to mate the cummins to the new venture 3500 , the engine fits in the engine compartment perfectly the biggest problem we had was the clearance between the oil pan and the front diff. it runs nice, very good on fuel, pulls good but its far from a race truck we are hoping to start tuning it {injectors turbo intercooler and pump. but for now my son has avery cool truck.

" Expect DC to drop Cummins(51% owned by Ford) for either the Detroit or Mercedes Diesel for the RAM in the next few years.""
LOL
i HATE when people say cummins is owned by ford, or was owned by ford
they owned a small share at one time and sold it off

Fuel economy is one reason why they would prefur the smaller ISB Cummins over the larger 438 cid Cat. But the ISB is no slouch. 265 HP and 660 ftlbs of toruqe.

But as of now, you might be able to get the larger 6.7L I6. What the ratings would be I wouldn't know. But, the toruqe rateing would be much higher than what you see in the Ram.

I'm not a member of this forum but while looking for information concerning the Dakota conversion that I also seen at NAIAS I stumbled across this PDF put out by the DOE. It is entirely about DDC's 4.0L V-6 that they designed as a swap out for lower efficiency gas engines. I hope everyone enjoys the information, even though it's far from relevant now.

OH, and as for my 2cents on the C7 Cat in the F650...If it ain't a CAT, it's a dog! :-P

Have a great night all!
