 Subject: grille insert, open hood?

I recently bought a grille insert kit over the internet, and though I haven't received it yet I have been thinking about something. How am I going to open my hood? The grille insert covers up the safety latch release. I have seen many pics of dakotas with these style inserts and I am sure many of you have them yourself. I know this sounds kinda stupid but maybe you could enlighten me on this.

some of the kits I have seen have an allowance or slot or hole or what ever you want to call it to allow for this.

I also thought that the kit that I ordered would allow a slot for this but in the picture the insert is solid, and doesn't show an opening or slot to allow for this. Surely I won't have to remove the insert in order to open the hood?

If it's the street scene grill inserts, it should come with a new hood release. If not, you may have to make one yourself. It isn't very hard to do and it's been explained on this site more than a few times. There's even a link somewhere that does a step by step install. If you can't find it, you can use a screwdriver for a while--or even a key. It looks really cool if you need a key to open your hood :) But it gets annoying after a while.

thanks for the info. I knew there had to be a way to open without taking to insert out or at least I hoped there was. I appreciate your help.

Just side note. I did the pimptopia grill install, which looks great by the way. I did however alter his hood release idea. He shows a piece of wire ran through a small plastic tube that is tie wrapped to the center support. I actually drilled a hole in the center support and ran the tube/wire through that and brought it out right in the bottom center of the support. It's just a very small variation, but every little bit helps. Does anyone know where that guy got the auto hood release that he used?

Didn't he say it came out of a remote lock kit and was originally used for the trunk of a car?
