Subject: tach/rpm sensor wire...wtf??? IP: Logged
Message: i've been kickin ass w/ this remote start/alarm install until now, i just hit a wall. i cannot find this alleged tach/rpm sensor wire. the diagram says its black and grey and is located at the pcm or at the coil but i have no idea where either of those are at on my 99 dak. i found a black and grey wire in the engine compartment but i dont want to randomly tap into it unless it is what i need for sure??? does ne1 want to help me out and shed some light on my situation?????

Message: ok your pcm is attached to the fender front passenger side right above the wheel well inside the engine compartment its a sivler box with lots of wires into 3 big connectors, the coil is under the alternator, behind the belt tensoner. hope that helps if not look at your distributer and follow the wire from the center of the cap to the other end, thats the coil.

Message: thanks a ton man..i think you helped me out. thats a wierd place for a wire if that was the right one...it took me 45 minutes to figure out how to run a wire from the bottom side of the engine to the other side of the car. thanks again for the help...hopefully heh

F the pcm, do what Shane said and use the ground wire on the primary (12v) side of the coil. That's the wire I used and it works fine. The starter module uses the current from this wire to determine when to shut off the starter. I always thought they used a timer until I installed mine.
