Message: It's a descendant of the 727/A518 line of trannies. The H means that's it is fully hydraulic so nothing is controlled by the pcm. The 6 is DC's way of indicating how capable it is of handling increasing torque (in this case, the torque from a 360).

Message: Should be. The tranny used on the Dak R/Ts is the 46RE (some functional control by the pcm which I would rather do without since I race on the track).

Message: H = hydraulic
E = electronically controlled
On the Daks with 42/44/46RE, the torque convertor lock-up and shift into OD (may be another function as well but doesn't come readily to mind) are electronically controlled. 1-2 and 2-3 shifts are still hydraulically controlled.

Message: I have a 94 modle Dakota with a 318 magnum V8 and its mated to the 46 RH tranny (4= 4 speed... 6 is the series and R=rear drive and of course H means Hydro.
I've started haveing problems with this tranny because I got a leak in the transfer case. I just found that one out just weeks after I got the truck 4 months ago. Well i got the F-ing thing fixed but now it dosn't want to shift into 3rd. Its just stays in second. I don't know If I should get it fixed or just buy a new one. If I'm going to get a new one It might be a Jet 518 tranny.
Chrysler corp. built some of the best auto trannies around back 30 years ago (904 PF and the 727 TF) But the RH and RE trannies are just a far cry from what they should be. Its a shame!:( Now of course Chrysler improved there auto's with the 45RFE and 5-45 RFE multi speeds. Buts whos took the credit for them??? Merceedes???

STS: Check out APS Precision (http://www.apsprecision.com). They know the Chrysler transmissions and can build a very stout trans for you.

Message: Thinks for the link.
But I'm still looking into a 518 Jet. Also I like the way they set the shift points and also the gear ratio's. 3-4 is ok. But 1st (2.45:1) is just to high. The 518 J comes with a 2.92:1 ratio. Just what I'm looking for.
