I want to put 18" rims on my Dakota, but my mom said she heard that larger rims can cause axle damage and stuff like that. Is this true???? Or is she just trying to get me to no get the rims????

young dak, i have had 17" rims on my dakota for a year, and now im running 20" rims (have had them for 7 months) with no damage at all. your mom is pulling your leg.
the only damage you will have is going to be in your pocket when you buy tires. =)
