Subject: Annoying Automatic Locks
IP: Logged

Message:
This has been driving me insane! I have locked my keys in my truck 3 times now. When I start my truck the doors automatically lock, it doesn't wait until 15 mph like the manual says. Twice I have driven down my driveway, got out to check the mailbox and the damn thing is locked when I try to get back in. Once I stopped in the parking lot at work & ran back in for a second to get something. Came back out and it was locked. Luckily, I have one of those key magnet things hidden in the frame, so I was able to get back in. I tried the off to on 4 times thing and the chime sounds, but it still keeps doing it. Anyone else with this annoying problem?

What a bummer, that DOES suck. Can you take it to the dealer under warranty-and I know taking it to the dealer usually sucks also, and a time consuming hassle, but sometimes worth it.

NIce job on the key magnet box, or that would really be a mess.

ON my 01 Quad, SLT, it locks ~15mph, but I think the manual has a way to disable it, doesn't it?

Mine's a '99, so no more warranty. I would appreciate a heads-up after you get yours checked out. Todd - I tried the way the manual says to do it, the chime sounds just the way the manual says it should, but then nothing changes. I'm about to disconnect the power to the locks, because I live in the Midwest and we have to let vehicles warm up in the winter. I don't want to have to crawl under in the snow.

I don't have power locks, but what I usually do is keep a key in my wallet. Since the only time I remove my wallet when I'm in my car is for a toll booth, whenever I get out of my car my wallet is always on me. Saved me a few times. I realize my keys are locked in, just pull out my wallet, pull out the key, and go in and get the other keys.

This has happend to a lot of Durango owners on thew DOC forum. I have not had to deal with this but from memory, there is a disarm switch in each door. One is bad and needs to be replaced. They usually go bad after they get wet from a pressure washing, car wash, or heavy rain. The can start locking/unlocking at any time. Until you get it fixed, find the fuse for the power locks and pull it whenever you park the truck.

how would you disconnect the automatic lock
at 15mph? I have door poppers and
whenever I stop the truck, the door unlocks
automatically, so the popper goes off. if the
auto lock can be disconnected, it wouldnt pop
all the time...is there a fuse I can pull to
disconnect the automatic lock but still have
the alarm, power locks and poppers work?

I believe there is a button combination on the remote entry but I don't know what it is. I think it is described in your owners manual. Check it out. Somehow mine got disabled and I suspect it was due to one of my youngins playin with it. Didn't bother me so I never took it further.

Bad Power Locks
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 2000 and I am now about to replace the 3rd power lock on the doors!! The first one was the rear driverside, then the rear passenger side and now the rear passenger is out again. The first one was covered under my warranty, but the last I had to pay a deductable for the extended plan and will again for this other one. We live in a small town and the Dealership is on it's 3rd owner since I bought it, and offering the option that the locks are faulty, just isn't conceivable to these people.

Is there anyone out there who is having this trouble? I am going crazy!!!!
