my 2002 5.9v8 quad cab, service 4x4 light keeps coming on every few weeks, has been to the dealer 3 times, they can't figure it out.
any ideas

Funny, I have the very same problem. Only mine got to the point where the transfer case started doing strange things like trying to shift when I'm not telling it to. In fact, my trucks at the dealer now and I just got off the phone with the service guy to see if it was fixed yet. He told me it was wiring problem in wires leading to the T-case. When I go to pick it up either today or tomorrow I'll get a more detailed explaination of what was wrong and I'll let you know!!

Turns out my service light was cause there were 3 chaffed wires going down to the transfer case. Guess that explains why the thing was going into 4HI when it felt like it and still saying it was in 2WD. And it was intermittent, wouldn't happen for days at a time. If you want the dealer to see if you have the same problem, here's what my repair report said...

"...chaffed wires in Cavity #5 on the yellow wire with violet tracer, yellow wire with orange trace, and yellow wire with white trace..."
