Subject: Jack point for floor jack IP: Logged
Message: I did a search but can't really find the answer I was looking for. Is it ok to use a floor jack under the rear end housing to jack up the rear so you can place floor stands under the rear axle housing?
I have 2002 QC 4X4 AWD with the 8.25 inch rear end and I need to take the rear tires off to install some splash guards and I just want to make sure it is ok to use the rear end housing as the primary jack point for the hydraulic floor jack. I know the manual shows the jack points under the frame for use with the supplied scissor jack for installing the spare in the case of a flat. But I would think that using the floor jack to lift the complete rear of the truck you would want a central jack point such as the rear end housing. But I just want to be sure that this will not do possible damage to the rear end.
Thanks Mig

Message: You shouldn't have any problems putting the jack under the " pumpkin" or under the axle tube itself. Just make sure if you lift the whole rear end off the ground that you chock the front tires so it doesn't roll, the parking brake only works with the rear tires.

Message: I always put it under the leaf springs in the rear, and the a-frame in the front(2WD).
I too put the OEM fender flares on my 01 QC. Much easier removing the rear wheel, and turning the front to each side. I just raise one at a time. I never use the frame points, b/c then you have to jack so much out of the suspension first, it goes much higher, under the leaf, comes right off the ground, much afer IMO.
