recently ever since winter started when i start up my truck it makes a weird sound almost like the dam engine is breaking down, like a clinkity clink sound. i thought about it being the fan belt. but im not sure what else it could be, i was hoping someone could giveme a good idea that way ill know what to tell the dealership to look for?

If she's still under warranty just take it in, but other than that, I can't really say much by your description.

Perhaps the fan cluth, or maybe the harmonic balancer? Does it stop once the engine is warm?

John Milner.

Pardon my ignorance but may be you can answer my question. What is the harmonic balancer? The reason I ask this is because I have notice a weir noise in my dak when cold that the only way I can describe it is like a vacumm or pumping tap at the same rythm as a lifter noise w/out the knocking or pinging. I don't know if I'm being clear enough.

well once i start the truck the noise is at its loudest point, then after i drive and the engine doesnt read cold anymore, it appears to be gone. but then after it sits and i start it up, there is that same noise, i guess my problem is similar to FredDQC's problem, could it be a lifter?
