Subject: Missing header nut

Message:
The other day I started to hear an exhaust leak after I investigated it today I found one of the nuts on the header is gone. The stud is still there but it looks like the threads left with the nut.If anyone has any tips for getting the stud out that would be great. lookin for the easiest way

Is there enough room for you to use a "die" and cut new threads on the existing stud?

Maybe this would be easier and stop the exhaust leak.

If your gasket is blown, you will have to remove the header and replace it. If this is the case, removal of the bad stud should be relativly easy. Soak the stud with lots of Liquid Wrench and use some vise grip pliers.

It sounds like the nut has been gone for a long time. The hot exhaust has just finally burned thru the gasket.

You can try to get the stud out if you can get to it. They are under no stress or pressure without the nut. Only corrosion will be holding it in.

The newer 5.2's don't have a gasket from the factory , and yours may not have a gasket . Dodge figured that if they milled the head and the manifold the will seal very well and no worries about a blown gasket.
