Subject: 96 Dakota Squeak

Message:
I have a 1996 4x4, 50k miles. When its cold, I get a squeaking (not metal on metal) noise in the front end (gets faster and slower depending upon speed. starts at about 15 mph). Dealer thought it was universal joints and replaced both on front end. Goes away after it gets warm, and shifting transfer case doesn't change sound. Changed transfer case fluid and front diff oil. I thought it was front wheel bearings--the dealer says no. I figure it must be some kind of lubrication issue, since when the truck is warm it doesn't do it. Any suggestions?
