Subject: Noisy wipers! IP: Logged
Message: Hey everyone. Here in CA we're currently being hit by our second rainstorm of the season. If it matters, I've got a 99 SLT 4X4 with the 5.2 V8. Anyways, last storm (about a month ago) I bought new wipers because the passenger side wiper on my truck was skipping and very noisy...now, after they've both been replaced, it's still noisy. It doesn't skip as much, but when it first leaves its default position, it skips and makes noise, then when it finishes its travel it makes a squeak. This is mainly the passenger wiper, but the drivers one makes a squeak at the top of its travel too. They wipe effectively but the noise is quite annoying. Sorry for the long post, but could anything else be causing this besides bad blades? Thanks for the help.

Message: I used the wipers on my 02 durango once... they sucked so bad. Plus any wiper cleans the area it touches and leaves a nasty track of dirt on the untouched glass. I'm a freak about cleanliness... i even get pissed when people leave fingerprints on the paint. lol But anyways... That was the last time I ever turned them on. Try some Rain-X windshield wax, it works a lot better than the liquid or wipes.

Message: You might want to try Silicone wiper blades. I have a set of Silblades and, although they're too stiff the 22" length (for more cleared area) I'm using, they work well and don't oxidize like rubber ones. I'm about to try PIAA - they seem to be more pliable.
Also, clean you windshield with good lacquer thinner, to remove the black crap that accumulates from deteriorating rubber blades & road dirt. I had that problem a lot when I lived in CA.
Lastly, use a high quality glass cleaner - Sprayaway is my fave, and good-quality wipes - Kimwipes another favorite. Both products are used in the printing/graphics trade; Sprayaway is often available at Costco.
