Subject: clutch noise & rims/snow tires for sale IP: Logged
Message: I have a question and a part to sell. First the question:
I have a 2000 dak with a 4.7 litre and a 5spd manual. When I am starting from a stop, and I don't hit the contact point just right (hold in the clutch just a little too long), I get a squeal from the front of the truck. Its like a brake squeak, but not quite as harsh, sort of like a squeaky belt. I thought my clutch pads might be getting worn, but the clutch does not slip, and I had a mechanic listen to it, and he did not think it was the transmission. It seems to come and go but for the life of me I don't know what it is. Has anyone experienced this, and how do I fix it?
Now the parts:
I have two 15X7 five spoke alloy rims from a 97 dakota with snow tires (225/70r-15) with about 90% tread remaining. I bought the rims so I could easily switch out my snow tires in the winter, and had them on for one season. The next summer I totaled that truck and bought the 2000 with different rims. Tires and rims are available separately or together, but I will give you a better price to buy them both.
Email me for prices. The parts are in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Message: Hey Alex,
I have a 98 5.2L 4x4 with a 5spd and am experiencing the same noise. I notice it most often when I start from second and maybe feather the clutch a little more than I should. I have had a couple mechanics listen to it, but they don't know what it is either. They didn't think the cluth was slipping after they drove it. One suggested a throw out bearing... The truck has been doing it for about 8 months (~16,000 miles) Truck has about 120k on it now and was thinking I would just replace the clutch next summer since I want to fix a leak between two halves of the transmission case...

Message: That 'Squeel' from the clutch when engaging...................THROW-OUT BEARING
It's a part, I don't mean throw out the bearing, well, I guess I do after it's replaced.

Message: Throw out bearing moves the clutch plates away from the flywheel when you push in on the clutch pedal. The pilot bearing is a needle type bearing that is pressed into the flywheel center hole and supports the input shaft from the tranny. So when you start to let out the clutch you are putting thrust to the input shaft which moves the shaft up against the pilot bearing causing a squeak or squeal. Had this problem many years ago in an old Ople Manta, after changing that a couple of times, I became an expert tranny remover.
This is just a thought on the location of the noise.
