Subject: Need Help on Axle Assembly Question !
IP: Logged

Message:
I would appreciate any comments on a question I have on Axle assembly's. I have a 1998 Dakota Club Cab 5.2 V8 5sp 4x4 it has the 9.25" 3.92 Rear axle assembly. The rear axle assembly went bad. A yard about 150 miles away from me has a 8.25" available which came off a 1997 Dakota Club Cab 3.9 V6 5spd 4x4. I wanted help in determining if the 1997 8.25" will fit on my 1998 that had a 9.25" without any modifications. My main concern is that if I install the 8.25" axle assembly will the existing driveshaft mate with it. Is the driveshaft length different for the 8.25" and the 9.25"? Does anybody know if the brake size is the same between rear sizes? Thank you in advance for any info that you could provide. I know most people will ask why go down in size, I just want to use it for highway driving. I no longer need it for towing.

Happy Holidays!

John
