Message: I dont want to be a troll but for the last year, there's been a lot of talk about the Dakota being dumped by Chrylser. Several months old but finally saw today a spy pic of what the new Durango will look like. If they don't want to base the Dakota off the new Durango platform (will basically be a Ram but not much smaller) then it seems kind of silly to make another platform for a smaller, midsize truck. I think DC is thinking about making the Ram its main and only truck. Any thoughts?
Anyways, the new Durango I believe will be outstanding. Too bad they just dont release an SUV based off the Ram platform (Silverado -> Suburban, etc.) and keep the Durango -> Dakota platform if they ever decide to drop the Dakota. Dropping the Dakota I think will be a major mistake considering GM wants to enter the midsize market with Canyon/Colorado. Too bad its going to stink with its small engine and from sketches/concept pics, rubbermade styling.

Message: Also, if it is true the Dakota will be dumped, then we all know what the M80 will be replacing.

Message: Damn DC, why don't they just dig into their international market and bring up the Ramcharger from Mexico to compete with the Tahoe/Expedition and worry about the D/Dak seperately?? I'm real tempted to see what it takes to get one here and have some fun with it, too bad they don't come in 4x4, but I can fix that :)

Message: This is off the RTML. SO much for the Dakota being doomed. ANybody ever read http://www.car-truck.com/chryed/buzz.htm??? They have been saying for at least half this year, the Daota is being re-designed, but is not going away. They are also going to make the M80 as a smaller entry level truck priced under $15K

Subject: Saw a pre production 2004 Dakota
I have been doing these surveys for automotive research.
Today's was at the LA convention center and the 2004 Dakota was the vehicle.
we reviewed a club cab and a quad cab, the basic look is very close to the
lines of the ram. the front end is a scaled down version of the ram.
The interior is way different, the club cab rear doors opened for access to
the rear seats which is nice the interior appears to be upgraded, nicer
seats ect ect.
we used a hand held computer to rate what we liked about the appearance and
what we didn't, and they even had a area were you could write what you would
change or like and dislike.
I recommended to put real performance in the truck, like ...the Hemi, nice
wheels and tires and good brakes and to keep the big badge thing down to a
minimum.
no ugly plastic cladding, smooth door handles, aerodynamic mirrors and no
cheesy gauge display.
I hope the engineers get my response.

Message: This (the previous post) is the best news I've heard... this all sounds great, moving in the right direction (rear access doors in extended cab, better headlights, etc.) now they just need to finish the job of making my "dream truck" and stick a 5.7 Hemi/5-speed auto in a Sport (NON-RT) extended cab! Keeping my fingers crossed (but I'll believe it when I see it).

Message: Just a side note: In the latest motortrend, they mentioned something about the next Neon having styling cues from the m80 - M80 Neon. How ugly would that be?

Message: I just hope the front end of the new Dak is way scaled down from the current Ram 1500 front end. Just looks obnoxious. What ever happenned to aerodynamics?
