I don't yet have the shop manual for my truck, but I need to pull the radio (to hook up a new amp/EQ/sub), and it doesn't look good. I can't see any fasteners except for those under the gauge cluster. It kinda looks like there's a bunch of snaps/clips that hold the faceplate in place.

Has anyone been through this, yet?

I'd hate to snap off any of those annoying clips (like those on most door panels) simply because I wanted to access a couple 'o wires.

broeheem,

I just finished replacing my stock radio on my '01 QC. I used advice from www.intense99dak.com under stereo & speakers. as initial guidance. I removed the two screws just above the instrument panel and then the three screws (torx) from the bottom panel. The bottm panel needs to be moved enough to allow clearence of the top dash board. Watch the bottom dash removal (I didn't and release the parking brake. Slid down the driveway). Following intense99 advice by pulling on the dash and yes it does come off. Carefully, unhook the rubber strip around the steering column. Next, you need to disconnect the environmentals and the lights to move the dash out of the way. I couldn't get the connectors off so I just allowed enough clearence to change the radio. Four screws, two connectors and antenna. I hope that helps.

I recently went to Tweeter to scope out a new CD Receiver and also looked at the dask kits for the 2001 Dakota. On the bag, it had a little asterisk for the 2001 Dakota saying you should call them about removing the dash for help. Guess if you went in to Tweeter to check out the dash kits, you could grab the number for some more advice if needed.
