It is comming time to have new breaks put on. I was wondering if any different brands might help improve my stopping distance? If not, what would you recommend as the best breaks for the money? Thanks

Just grease your breaks, that will increase your stoping disdance a lot. Insted of stoping in 200 feat you can stop in 400 feat. thats quite an inprovment! sum pepole get all the brakes.

I recently bought pads for the front of my other truck for $12.99 out the door. They are semi-metalic. I bought them at NAPA. AutoZone wanted $30.00 for semi-metalic pads. They can not be any worse then the OEM pads and for $12.99 it is hard to go wrong.

Chris,

Have you read the entire article about BRAKES, and BRAKE wear that I found on the Recall board and reposted the link to? (sorry, don't have the link on my home puter)

They had STRONG evidence that it was NOT the rotors warping!

Even .alex., who posts often, has stated that after a while, his BRAKES get smooth again, AS DO MINE on my Quad! The brakes don't warp back into straight, IT'S UNEVEN DEPOSITS ON THE ROTORS!

Some people followed up on my posting on the article with things like "the dealer turned/replaced my rotors, and it solved the problem", no duh, you took off the uneven deposits. Changing everything should certainly fix it, temporarily at least, it then has a new surface.

check it out before you go to rotors

Texas Todd,

I am one of those who the dealer finally replaced my rotors and everything was fine after that. Sure I now have new surfaces but why am I not having the same problems with uneven deposits? I didn't change my front pads until 70k miles so problem wear definately wasn't a problems for my pads.
My dealer turned my rotors twice before finally replacing them at 12k miles......and I only had 1 problem rotor that constantly kept warping. After being taken into the service area and shown what was being done on my truck, I can assure you it wasn't "uneven deposits" that were being shaved off my rotors, that was metal all the way. Maybe you yourself had a problem with uneven deposits but as for most of the rest of us, it just may have been an actual METAL ROTOR WARP problem.

Izzy,

Noted.

I'm at work and found the link:

http://www.stoptech.com/whitepapers/warped_rotors_myth.htm

My brakes occas. get 'rough', then usually smooth out again that same day. I just found the article interesting regarding this problem. A problem that I'm really concerned with having a 01, QC, with 30K on it.

When more continuous problem develop, I'll be replacing my rotors and pads too!

And when the turn your rotors, of course they're taking some metal off. I think they come with crappy rotors, and a real problem, is that they're held to the hub by the lug nuts, not separately.

as has been stated a number of times in the past... most all newer 4x4's are using a "hat" type rotor.as well as most frt drivers. its easier to change the rotors and it keeps the cost down. everybody and i do mean everybody is haveing rotor warpage problems...not just our Daks.MAIN culprit is uneven wheel tourque! ya gotta use a tourque wrench or tourque stick! or your gonna have the same problem as you do now!the price on the brakes you got from Auto Zone were more than likely the performance friction carbon fiber pads.... they are more expensive,BUT they are less agressive on the rotors and they DON'T squeek. have had them on my wifes Cherokee for close to 50k on them now and just replaced them for drill. had close to 60% left.and they carry a lifetime warrenty!( as long as you own the car) carbon fiber pads are definately worth the money.
