Subject: Tires & gas mileage IP: Logged
Message: I just acquired an '01 Dakota Club Cab SLT. The tires on it are sized 215/75/15. I'd like to change them out in order to maximize gas mileage (if possible). Would getting the optional larger 235/75/15 improve the mileage any? Would getting a wider tire do it? Any recommendations on brands?

Message: Going wider will not get you better gas mileage, and going with the 235/75/15 may net you a few more miles on the highway compared to your stock size but the gains will be offset by your city gas mileage going down.
So basically you will even yourself out, unless you spend more time on the highway. If that's the case then go with a large diameter tire (highway tire).

Message: There is no tire size that will make a notable diffence in gas mileage. There are only tires that will decrease gas mileage. Don't worry about it.
