Subject: Scratched my *$% bumper! IP: Logged
Message: Damn you Dodge! Why did you have to make it so difficult to change the headlight bulbs?
I ordered Xenon bulbs from Midnight Moose for my 2002 QC Sport. According to the owner's manual "remove the three screws and pull firmly on the headlight housing." Firmly, right. I had to pull so hard to pop that knob out, that I almost ripped the entire housing out and flung it across the yard. Does Clark W. Griswold putting gas in the Family Truckster ring a bell?
Well, my tug of war with the headlight left some scrapes on the top of the black plastic bumper cover on the driver side. Is there anything I can do to repair that? Probably not, but you never know.
I know that several people have said that they could change their bulbs without removing the housing. I looked at that option first, but there was no way I could get my hand anywhere near that bulb. So I opted for the pull firmly (aka, rip from the socket) method. Argh!
It could be worse. I could still be driving my Ford Ranger RC 4-banger.

Message: LOL Andrew, my driver side can be reached from behind the housing, the passanger cannot so I have to do the old yank'n'pull to get it out.
The black plastic bumper cap is very scratchable(and unrepairable) and have a few digs to prove it, just shine up the plastic with your favorite brand of "armor-all" and it almost disappears. The ball-n-socket at the rear corner of headlight is a PITA to pull out and also breaks very easy if you don't pull straight.
My last Dak with the 3.9 I could change bulbs in 5 minutes so much extra room in the engine bay:)
Sorry bout your Griswold'esque adventure, hope you at least are happy with the new bulbs:)

Message: 2THEXTRM, thanks for the kind words. Hopefully these bulbs will last a long time so I don't have to do this very often. But when I do, I'll be sure to put a towel on the bumper to protect it!
I really like the new bulbs. MUCH brighter and whiter. I always hated those regular old yellow lights on my white truck. Also, the fog lights seem to make more of a difference now than they did before.
