Subject: Cat removal? IP: Logged
Message: Anybody removed at least one of their cats? Pros & Cons? Its legal where I'm from as long as you don't remove all of them, I think.

Message: If you are removing the cat. to pick up exhaust flow on a street engine, you may be disappointed when performance drops from feedback to the engine. If you want the performance increase, install a short aftermarket converter, usually under $200. You do pick up some more sound. I believe removing the cat. is illegal in the entire USA. Muffler shops are subject to stiff fines if they remove one and don't replace it with another.

Message: Yeah just replace it with a Carsound or catco. I think they cost about the same. Under $100. Any muffler shop will probably weld it on for under $50. I did this and picked up nice gains on my 4.7L.

Message: On my '99 Club Cab 2wd 318 Auto 3.55's It was one of the first things I did to mine and have never had any regrets. I ditched the stock cat and ran 2 1/2" pipe and a Dynomax Race Magnum - still running the stock tailpipe - and went from 10.50's@64mph to 10.20's@67mph in the 1/8.
