Subject: Mobil1 tranny and cold weather
IP: Logged

Message:
I changed out my manual tranny fluid this past summer and this is the first winter running the synthetic. The Mobil1 has been working great during the warm weather, but recently I have noticed trouble shifting into second gear until the tranny warms up. Has anybody else noticed this? I though synthetic tranny fluid worked better in cold weather?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

What type / weight of Mobil-1 did you put into
you manual transmission ?
If you put in the 75W-90 Gear oil which is made
for rear differentials, you will have that
problem in the cold. I believe that the 75W-90
is also GL-5 spec which is not recommended for the
manual transmission. I would suggest using
Mobil-1 5W-30. That is what I have in mine, and
have no problems with sluggish shifting in the cold.

The AMSOIL HDD 5w-30 and the ASL 5w-30 work even better than the Mobil in freezin a$$ weather.

hmmm....thanks bb2dak for the update. Do you have a 5.2L? I have a V6. My Dak manual recommends the SAE75W-90 for my tranny. The V-8 has a NV-3500 tranny while the 2.5 & 3.9L has the AX-15 tranny.

Thanks,
Brian
